• Benguet wants tourists allowed in ‘La Presa’ again

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: Board Member Juan Nazarro Jr. has filed a resolution asking the Department of Environ-ment and Natural Resources (DENR) to allow tourists once more to visit Mount Santo Tomas, which was made fa-mous as the fictitious community called “La Presa” in the telenovela “Forevermore.” The area was closed to tour-ism activities last year after the enforcement of a Permanent Environment Protection Order (PEPO) issued by the Court of Appeals after a case was filed against a former Baguio representative who developed an area within the forest reservation. The closure had a domino effect and affected the livelihood of residents in the area. Nazarro claimed the Notice of Judgment issued by the Court of Appeals does not include banning tourists to enter Mount Santo Tomas. Attractions and adventures in the area include trekking, visiting the life-sized Stations of the Cross, a panoramic view of Baguio City and parts of the province including outlying areas like the Lingayen Gulf and a breathtaking view of stunning clouds below.
