Cyclists Alvin Benosa and Nino Martin Eday emerged victorious in the inaugural Vermosa Bike Night Carnival held at the Vermosa Bike Park, Daang Hari Road in Cavite on Saturday.

The two riders won in their respective race classes in the event held as part of the launch of the newly-built mountain bike trail park at the heart of the rising 700-hectare community development in Cavite.

Benosa took home the XDS Cross-Country Cycling Men’s Elite Class crown with a 20-second gap against his closest opponent.

He checked in at 20:05.697 to rule the event while second placer EJ Flores had a time of 20:25.713. Jigo Mendoza also clinched a spot in the podium at third place with a time of 20:45.047.

But it was Eday who grabbed one of the biggest plums of the night after winning the La Pierre Pump Challenge Elite Division with a time of 51.466 seconds.

With the win, the biker earned the ticket to be the country’s representative in the upcoming Red Bull Dark Knights biking competition in Singapore on June 4.

Eday showed his mastery of the pump track to edge British pro-biker Josh Lewis and Jerich Farr, who both ended the event at the podium at second and third place, respectively.

According to Jay Teodoro, project development manager of Vermosa, one of the main objectives of their newest project is to promote an active lifestyle through cycling.

“We really like to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and one of the things or ways we can do that is to promote the spot of cycling, which is one of the fastest growing sports in the country,” he said.

“This is also the official opening of the Vermosa Bike Park. From tonight, this will be open to the public. Also, in the future we’ll have other facilities that will cater to other athletes,” Teodoro added.
