With the aim to offer a “stylish, social and savvy TV experience” Sony Pictures Television Networks-Asia has officially re-branded beTV into Sony Channel on October 15.
Hui Keng Ang, Sony’s senior vice president and general manager for Asia, personally flew into the Philippines to make the announcement at a launch party in Dusit Thani Manila.
“Sony Channel is the future of TV. Stylish, social and savvy, it will create a lifestyle experience,” the executive guaranteed.
Ang further announced that four new shows will be exclusively shown on the cable channel, namely How to Get Away with Murder, the latest drama from executive producer Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy); a White House drama titled Madam Secretary starring Téa Leoni; a romantic comedy in Manhattan Love Story; and the comedic drama Jane The Virgin.
“We believe there is an opportunity in the Philippines for a general entertainment destination that is female focused, but also male inclusive. These four new series are smart, edgy and driven by strong women—a perfect fit for the new Sony Channel brand,” he explained.
The much-awaited How to Get Away with Murder marked the birth of the new Sony Channel when it premiered on October 15.
