• BFAR bans sardine fishing in Zamboanga

For the fourth consecutive year, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) established a three-month ban on sardine and herring fishing off the coast of the Zamboanga peninsula as part of the agency’s conservation efforts for small pelagic fish species. In Administrative Circular 255, BFAR Director Asis Perez said that the closed season would be implemented off the coastal waters of East Sulu Sea, Basilan Strait, and Sibuguey Bay—covering approximately 22, 260 square kilometers.
