TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan: The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Wednesday began monitoring fishing areas where the closed season for catching ludong has been implemented.
Regional BFAR regulatory and quarantine head Arsenio Bañares said personnel and equipment are ready for the implementation of Bureau Administrative Circular (BAC) 247.
BAC 247 is a fishery regulation declaring a closed-season on the catching of ludong effective October 1 to November 15 of each year, a period during which the taking of specified fishery species is prohibited.
“[The circular ] was crafted primarily to arrest the rapid decline on the abundance of ludong [Cestraeus sp.] which is a highly priced fish that is also considered as cultural symbol of Cagayanos,” Bañares said.
