• Bibiano wins National Junior Badminton finals

    BACOLOD’S bet April Dianne Bibiano bagged the girls’ under-19 singles crown in the national finals of the Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National Junior Badminton Tournament late Sunday night at the SM North Edsa Annex, Quezon City.

    Bibiano, 18, used her quick service attacks to dominate national junior player Sarah Joy Barredo of Luzon, 21-11, 21-15.

    “I came over here in Manila not to lose but to take home the national title in my category,” Bibiano, a former Palarong Pambansa champion, told The Manila Times.

    Bibiano also defeated Mindanao standout Janine Peligrino 21-18, 21-12.

    Barredo and Peligrino bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.

    National player Ros Leenard Pedrosa of Philippine Badminton Association-Smash Pilipinas and 10-year-old sensation Jewel Angelo Albo of Luzon also shone in the finals of the two-day round robin tournament by winning the boys’ U-19 and U-13 crowns respectively.

    Pedrosa beat Emilio Mangubat of Visayas, 21-15, 16-21, 21-13, and Alem Palmares of Mindanao, 21-15, 21-15, to win the U-19 crown. Albo, the youngest among the participants, won over Lyrden Laborte of Visayas, 21-15, 21-23, 21-11, and Mindanao’s Michael Jastine Perez, 21-6, 21-7.

    Visayas leg winner Carl Bernard Bejasa thumped Mindanao bet Arthur Samuel Salvado, 21-12, 18-21, 21-17, and Luzon’s Albo, 21-18, 21-16, to rule the boys’ 15-under singles class.

    Laville Laborte of Visayas beat Lourdes Babanto of Luzon, 21-11, 21-16, and Mindanao’s Virginia Lopez via walkover to claim the 15-U girls’ singles crown.

    In the boys’ and girls’ singles U-17 class finals, Visayas’ Emilio Mangubat beat Daniel Pantanosas of Mindanao, 21-12, 21-15, and Fides Joven Bagasbas of Luzon via walkover while Mindanao’s Jiselle Joy Capillo outlasted Visayas’ bet Rose Tingson, 21-17, 21-19, and Luzon’s Chanelle Lunod, 21-13, 18-21, 21-14.
