Bicol chosen for US-funded $450-M infra projects

LEGAZPI CITY: The Millennium Challenge Compact ll (MCC) of the United States has again chosen the Bicol Region to receive $450 million (about P2 billion) worth of infrastructure projects within a period of five years starting 2017. Joey Salceda, the Congressman-elect of the Second District of Albay, announced in a full-council meeting of the Bicol Regional Development Council (RDC) on Friday that the MCC called him again for a meeting last week to present his “pipeline projects” or important projects that will pull Bicol up because the MCC found in its study that the region has been left behind the other regions in Luzon in terms of development. Salceda said some personalities at the MCC were his former fellow international economists in the group called Foundation for Economic Freedom like Joseph Yap, Emmanuel de Dios and others, who want to visit Bicol again to put in place their flagship program or projects to accelerate economic growth in the region. He disclosed that the MCC l, during the administration of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, first gave $878 million for the Bicol Region through the RDC, but because it failed to submit the needed requirements, the budget went to the circumferential road project in Samar.

This economic development is really a good news for the whole bikol region which is one of the depressed regions in the country now this will benefit the Bicol International Airport, roads and bridges along coastal roads, the Qubex or Quezon-Bicol Expressways and the rehabilitation of the trains of PNR from Manila to Legazpi City!

  2. Maybe it is $45M, not $450M? That’s why it is about P2B?
Ano na naman itong angulo ng US? Anong panibagong gimmick ito? Para maging mas popular si MagnaLeni ROBBERdo? So kapag inoverthrow na nila si Dutete, may ipagyabang si MagnaLeni?
