BID official relieved amid gun charges vs. 4 Chinese

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya: The Regional Field Officer of the Bureau of Immigration in Laoag City was relieved from his post following last month’s arrest of four Chinese for gun charges, reports said on Wednesday.

Paul Versosa was relieved Monday of which reports said he knows no reason for.

But he believes that his sudden relief has something to do with the apprehended Chinese Lei Guang, Dang Hoi Yin, Lui Xin Fen and Dennis Min Co, reports said.

Reports also said that Versosa’s relief may have something to do with the preparations in his office for separate charges against the Chinese suspects.

The suspects failed to present proper documents and papers showing their entry into the country, police reports said.

Versoza’s relief also came during the preliminary hearing of the gun charges filed against the Chinese before the Regional Trial Court, Branch 19, in Bangui, Ilocos Sur.

Supt. Jeffrey Gorospe, Ilocos Norte police spokesman, said the Chinese were locked up in the Ilocos Norte provincial jail when they were brought to Bangui town for Monday’s preliminary trial.

They were charged for illegal possession of firearms and explosives by the local police after they were arrested at a checkpoint in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte on May 28.

Intelligence reports cited by the Ilocos police claim that the suspects have links with high-profile syndicates.
