ELEMENTS of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) has resumed with their bombing sorties, blasting a power grid that caused massive brownout in the provinces of Maguindanao and Cotabato.
Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, chief, Public Affairs Office, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), disclosed on Monday the Moro rebels used an improvised explosive device (IED) in destroying one of the towers of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines located in Barangay Ladia, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
“The assessment is that the BIFF are responsible. This time its still them as per assessment of the Sixth Infantry Division,” Zagala added.
He explained that the basis of the assessment was the discovery of IED in the same barangay a week before which was established as directly connected to the BIFF.
According to Zagala, the bombing incident was still part of the destabilization move by the BIFF to derail the ongoing peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
“That is their objective but we in the armed forces and together with the MILF we should not allow these people to succeed. They are peace spoilers and we should not let them deter our security operations. We will just continue to be vigilant because they are out there,” Zagala said.
