• BIFF responsible for civilian deaths – AFP

COTABATO CITY: State forces over the weekend clarified that retreating Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) militants were to blame for the civilian casualties during Friday’s firefight in Pikit town in North Cotabato contrary to reports that the skirmish took place pursuant to a military offensive in the area. Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesperson of the Sixth Infantry Division, on Saturday said the explosion that killed two civilians came from an overshot mortar bomb launched by the BIFF. Hermoso earlier identified the civilian casualties as Rayhana Acmad Malading, 11, and Kantoh Kaluidasan, 40. The military official explained that state troopers went to the area to serve warrants of arrest to members of the BIFF, particularly to a certain Commander Karialan.
