Expect a more exciting Gatorade Run this year, as the sequel to last year’s successful 11K and 22K runs will happen on November 27.
The second edition of the said half-marathon spectacle was officially launched through a press conference at the F1 Hotel on Thursday night with RunRio head Rio Dela Cruz and Gatorade Marketing Manager Tony Atayde present.
Some of the new twists revealed in the second edition of the running event mainly sponsored by the world’s number one sports drink include a new route, a catch that will make the event more competitive, and an added bonus to the 22K finishers.
For this year’s edition, Dela Cruz and Atayde bared that runners will not have to endure the challenge of going up and down the two flyovers along Roxas Blvd. as the race map is virtually at flatland with Gil Puyat Ave. serving as the main road for the 22K run and the CCP Complex serving as the main area for the 11K run. Like last year, the race will start and end at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds in Pasay.
“I was open to opening it up to something different. We heard some runners during last year saying that most of the races went through Roxas Blvd., and we want to be able to provide something unique and more efficient,” said Atayde.
Dela Cruz added, “We would to provide our runners [a chance]to beat their time compared to last year. We are expecting faster time for all the runners who joined last year.”
About six thousand runners took part in the inaugural Gatorade Run, and both Dela Cruz and Atayde are expecting at least eight thousand this year.
In line with the flatter route, Dela Cruz also mulled at requiring the 22K run participants to finish the race in at most three hours or at least make sure that they reenter the CCP Complex by sunrise.
He added that those who are still racing by the cutoff time could be escorted by a “sweeper bus” to the finish line.
As an added motivation, 22K finishers will get a medal each alongside the finisher shirts as per request by the runners.
