COTABATO CITY: The 6th Infantry Division (6ID) of the Philippine Army based in Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat (DOS), Maguindanao has organized a mountain biking activity dubbed as “We ride together for BBL [Bangsamoro Bike for Love]” to coincide with the celebration of Valentine’s Day on February 14.
Captain Jo-Ann Petinglay, 6ID spokesperson, said the activity is supported by 6ID commanding general Edmundo Pangilinan, who wanted sports activities that is linked and geared towards the attainment of peace in Central Mindanao.
Petinglay said the mountain biking activity will be joined by representatives of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Moro National Liberation Front (MILF), Government of the Philippines (GPH) Peace Panel, International Monitoring Team and the local government unit chiefs of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Also joining the event are representatives of the business sector, religious groups, Philippine National Police, non-government organizations and bike enthusiasts in Central Mindanao.
She also said that this peace initiative will be led by Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Teresita Quintos-Deles, GPH Peace Panel Chairwoman Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, 6ID Commander Major Gen. Edmundo Pangilinan, MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, Archdiocese of Cota-bato Auxiliary Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, and Muslimin Sema, senior leader of the Moro National Liberation Front and former Cotabato City mayor.
The activity is aimed to encourage support for the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and to foster the spirit of solidarity among bike enthusiasts who can be called heralds of love and peace.
“The activity will showcase the concerted efforts and cooperation among stakeholders as a mechanism for strong support to peace,” according to Petinglay.
