DESPITE heated controversy over investigation by the Senate of the Binay family, Vice President Jejomar Binay remains a friend of President Benigno Aquino 3rd, according to Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla.
“Vice President Binay remains an ally of the President. More important, he continues to be a real friend of the Aquino family,” Remulla, Binay’s spokesman on political concerns, said on Wednesday.
Remulla issued the statement to squelch reports that Aquino and Binay are parting ways after the Vice President criticized the conduct of the inquiry by a sub-committee of the Senate blue ribbon panel.
Speaking before lawyers of the Public Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, Binay slammed what he called as “selective justice” under the Aquino administration.
“The views he articulated during the forum with lawyers were a product of the experience and wisdom he gained as a life-long human rights advocate and as a lawyer well-versed on the constructs of our legal system,” Remulla said.
Malacañang also on Wednesday brushed aside Binay’s tirades.
Palace spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the administration remains focused on solving the country’s problems, not on politics.
Binay had noted that only members of the opposition are being targeted by the administration, citing as examples Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr. who were charged with plunder and graft for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
The Vice President maintained that allegations of corruption against him are baseless and politically motivated.
