BALANGA City: Vice President Jejomar Binay won the hearts of the local residents here when he opted to crack jokes while explaining away the allegations of corruption heaped on him by his political detractors.
He was heavily applauded in his short speech as he cracked one joke after another eliciting laughter from the big crowd who all warmly received him as they easily forgot that he came in late for his scheduled arrival.
He was scheduled to arrive and join a boodle fight at 12:40 in the afternoon but he arrived at past 4:00 p.m. after attending to other commitments.
Binay acted as sponsor in the wedding of a son of Pilar town Mayor Alice Pizarro and Metro Bataan Development Authority General manager Charlie Pizarro.
The Vice President came late because he obliged to the request of many people who mobbed him and asked to pose for pictures with them while he was at the public market in Olongapo City and at the government arsenal in Lamao, Limay, Bataan.
Binay was thankful for the warm reception that he received from Bataan residents although he expressed apprehension that he and his familly will soon be subjected again to political perscutions by his critics.
He later ate in the food court of the public market along with Gov. Albert Garcia, Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III, Orani Mayor Benjie Serrano, Orani Vice-Mayor Bong Galicia and other local officials of the province.
In Abucay, Bataan, Binay on Saturday night distributed wheelchairs and medical equipment for senior citizens in the town.
He also inaugurated Senior Citizen’s Centers in the two villages where he gave two wheelchairs each, stethoscopes and other medical kits.
Over at Limay town, Binay continued his charm offensive as he handed out over 362 Certificates of Lot Award to the employees of the Department of National Defense Arsenal and members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines assigned in Lamao, Limay, Bataan.
He added that the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council that he chairs will release more certificates to complete the beneficiaries in 30 hectares of the 370 hectare-Arsenal property.
He promised to speed-up the housing project through the partnership of HUDCC and Pag-ibig Fund.
