Vice President Jejomar Binay admitted on Thursday that he was offended by the Senate blue ribbon committee’s investigation of allegations that the parking building beside the Makati City Hall was overpriced.
“I may sound like a hypocrite if I told you that I wasn’t offended,” Binay told reporters.
The Vice President said he was saddened because of the politicking at the Senate, noting that the inquiry was rooted in his plan to run for President in 2016.
“Nalulungkot ako. Sabagay, tinanggap naman ng isang senador na kaya ito ay iniimbestiga nila ay dahil sa ako ay kandidatong presidente. Wow, kitang-kita mo naman talaga ang political motive nito [I am sad. One senator admitted that they are investigating because I am a presidential candidate. Wow, the political motive is so obvious],” Binay added.
Senator Antonio Trillanes 4th filed Senate Resolution 826 urging his fellow lawmakers to investigate the allegedly overpriced building.
Renato Bondal, who lost to Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay in the May 2013 elections, on Wednesday accused the Vice President and the incumbent mayor of splitting into five contracts the alleged overpriced “park building.” Bondal has claimed that the building was overpriced by P2 billion.
The Vice President said he is considering attending the Senate inquiry.
His daughter, Sen. Nancy Binay, said the Senate is being used by their political rivals.
“It appears that we allowed the Senate to provide our local rival in politics a forum or venue for name-calling,” she added.
The senator said she had no complaints about the way Sen. Aquilino Pimentel 3rd handled the hearing but that the other senators showed their biases.
