Binay open to pardoning old and ill prisoners

Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday welcomed the plan of President Benigno Aquino 3rd to pardon aged and sick inmates at the New Bilibid Prisons as a gift to Pope Francis.

“This is welcome news that is certainly in line with the message of love and compassion that the Pope represents,” Binay said.

The Vice President added that the impending pardon of sick and old inmates will bring hope to other prisoners who have atoned for their crimes and wish to become productive members of society again.

In his Christmas message, Binay said inmates “who have recognized and have paid for their crimes should be given the opportunity to rejoin society.”

He expressed hope that elderly prisoners will get to spend their twilight years with their family.

On November 27, 2014, the Board of Pardons submitted the names of 47 inmates who are eligible for executive clemency.

  1. The one’s in for murder should not be included their victims didn’t get a pardon to choose where they spend their twilight years . No reprieve for them.

  2. He should also release those serving long imprisonment terms for minor drug offences. These are out of all proportion to the crime. Mostly held in local jails.

    • I fully agree with u there. Drug users are victims of their own habit . I’m talking about users not pushers okay. That’s why the jails are overcrowded doing long sentences for minor offenses .Wrong

Porgib-porgib to the mastermind of the Ninoy Aquino Assasination. Wala na ring interes for history to be informed as to “Sino nga ba????” and to bring before a court of law the mastermind of the Assasination on the Tarmac.
