Binay seeks dismissal of election protest

Makati City (Metro Manila) Mayor MarLen Abigail Binay is set to ask the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to dismiss an election protest case filed by former Mayor Romulo Peña Jr. over alleged poll irregularities. Lawyer Daniel Subido said Peña failed to provide detailed specifications of his accusation. Peña, who lost to Binay, a former congresswoman, by more than 18,000 votes from all precincts in Peña’s supposed bailiwick of District 2, said he had obtained photos, videos and testimonies of residents to prove that his name did not appear in the voting receipts of people who had voted for him, as well as the massive vote-buying of his opponent. Peña asked the poll body to manually recount the ballots in District 2.
