Binay to intensify fight vs criminality

UNITED Nationalist Alliance (UNA) presidential candidate Jejomar Binay vowed to intensify the fight against criminality if he wins in May.

The Vice President, his running mate Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan 2nd and UNA’s senatorial slate campaigned in Rizal province Saturday and were welcomed by thousands of their supporters.

The Vice President said he will appoint Honasan as crime czar.

Binay, a member of Alpha Phi Omega, told the crowd that one of his fraternity brothers, former Sto. Tomas councilor Damasino “Caloy” Mabilangan Jr., was shot dead Friday morning while jogging.

“May problema talaga tayo sa katahimikan at ito po ang magiging sagot, si Vice President Greg Honasan. Ito ay talagang hindi nila masisindak. Subok na sa katapangan [Peace and order is really a problem. And Vice President Greg Honasan will be the answer. No one can scare him off. His courage has been tested,] ”he said in an assembly at the Anakpawis Court at Barangay San Andres, Cainta.

Honasan, on the other hand, said Binay will serve as a healing and unifying president.

“Siya ang presidente na magbubuo sa ating lahat. Siya ang gagamot sa sugat na dulot ng sobrang pamumulitika. Siya ang magiging kabalikat natin sa pagdarasal at pagsisikap na magkaroon ng pambansang pagkakaisa, pangmatagalang kapayapaan at kaunlaran sa napakagandang bansa nating ito [He will be the president who will unify us. He will heal the wounds that came from too much politicking. He will be our partner in praying for unity, he will work to unify us so that there will be peace and progress],” Honasan said.

In Angono, Binay called himself “a candidate of the senior citizens” and narrated the services that the elderly in Makati enjoyed while he was still mayor of the city. He also pledged that under his presidency, he will replicate what he did in Makati nationwide.

In previous statements, Binay vowed to include senior citizens aged 60 to 64 in the expanded and improved Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Binay also stressed the need for a leader who has a good track record in management and care for others, especially the poor.

“Napapanahon na na ang ating bansa ay magkaroon ng isang pangulo na may karanasan, may kakayahan at may malasakit sa kanyang kapwa Pilipino [It’s about time that we have a leader who has the experience, the capability and sympathy for fellow Filipinos],” he said.

After Angono, Binay proceeded to Binangonan, Morong, Sta. Cruz and Marikina City.

Also present in the caravan are UNA senatorial candidates Princess Jacel Kiram, Alma Moreno, former Special Action Force Commander Getulio Napeña, Rey Langit, labor lawyer Allan Montano, and Harry Roque who is representing party-list Kabayan.
