Binay urges police officers to be models of discipline

SAYING he was saddened by the tarnished image of law enforcers, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Saturday exhorted the police force to serve as models of discipline.

“Can we blame the people for having a negative image of the policeman? A cop whose belly bulges out of his uniform? A cop who extorts, who protects petty criminals and syndicates?’ Binay said in address in Filipino at the 35th Foundation Day and Incorporation Rites of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNP).

Binay said having discipline serves as the guide for the police officer in exercising duties and responsibilities.

He urged the police force, especially the cadets, to lead the way in reinstilling discipline which he said is crucial to national progress.

Binay said that when was mayor of Makati City, he would always remind police officers newly assigned to the city that they became part of the police force to serve, and not to be served.
