She got lucky.
This was how Rep. Abigail Binay of Makati City described her winning a condominium unit at The Grove-Rockwell property worth P5 million.
She won the unit from the Christmas raffle of Makati-based Powerplant-Rockwell mall.
Binay, the daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay and sister of Sen. Nancy Binay, confirmed that she was informed of the good news on Saturday.
“This is not about letting it go because of delicadeza. I did not cheat. It is sheer luck that I won that raffle. It is not based on my financial status or my stature as a politician. The raffle was in the mall and was open to the public. I won it fair and square,” she told reporters.
She said that she joined the raffle when she bought toys for her godchildren in December.
“In the past, I’ve won some items in raffle draws such as television set, trip to Hong Kong, small stuff like that. But when I first learned about it [condominium], I thought it wasn’t true. I can’t believe it, considering that there were a lot of people who joined.
I didn’t have expectations [of winning],” Binay said.
“Why would I rig it in the first place? If I wanted something to rig, why not rig the lotto so I can win more? What happened was pure chance,” she added.
