Cebu City: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region (RR) 13–Cebu City recently conducted the Medium Taxpayers Segment (MTS) Forum to orient taxpayers and discuss issues and concerns to maximize tax compliance. Regional Director Aynie Mandajoyan-Dizon said the MTS is composed of the top 500 non-individual taxpayers in the region. They are technically large taxpayers without the required notification from the Revenue Commissioner to be enlisted and classified as large taxpayer. The creation of the MTS in the region is largely intended to strengthen and expand the coverage of the Large Taxpayers Service (LTS) of the BIR. The top 500 taxpayers of each from 12 regions, including Cebu City, enlisted 6,000 medium taxpayers culled from the 30,000 large taxpayers. The list excludes national government agencies, local government units, government-owned or -controlled corporations and state universities and colleges. The region has a collection goal of P29.3 billion for 2017 with 1,301,774 registered taxpayers. Mandajoyan-Dizon said the select group contributed P4.417 billion in taxes from January to September 2017 as compared to the P4.627 billion collection for the same period in 2016. The medium taxpayers contributed P6.419 billion in 2016, or 24.05 percent collection of P26.690 billion from the previous year.
