The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has stepped up its campaign against alleged tax evaders as it filed tax evasion cases against actor Zoren Legazpi, four traders and a construction company at the Department of Justice on Thursday.
The BIR said the respondents failed to pay P434.99 million in tax liabilities.
In a series of statements, the bureau said the cases were filed its Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program.
Legazpi, the long-time partner of actress Carmina Villaroel, was charged for “his willful attempt to evade or defeat tax, and deliberate failure to supply correct and accurate information in his income tax returns (ITRs) for taxable years 2010 and 2012.”
“As a result of his acts and omissions, Legazpi was sued for an aggregate income tax liability covering taxable years 2010 and 2012 amounting to P4.45 million, including surcharges and interests, broken down into: 2010—P1.92 million; and 2012—P2.53 million,” the BIR said.
It also filed criminal complaints against Constantino Llanes Jr., sole proprietor of JME Builders located in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Benedicto Pasco Caguimbal; Gigi Donaire Chua, owner of Wrangler Commercial and Vazquez Building Systems; and company President Edgardo Vazquez.
