The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Monday warned Stradcom against its P317-million income tax dues.
In an interview with The Manila Times, Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Jacinto Henares confirmed that as to date, the bureau did not receive the income tax payment from Stradcom.
Stradcom is the information technology (IT) provider for the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
“As of now, we haven’t received any payment from Stardcom. Their tax liability is long overdue so we have to charge them immediately,” Henares said in Filipino.
The commissioner added that Stradcom’s obligation to pay taxes differs from its obligation to charge the government for its IT services.
Henares further said that the IT company should not involve the BIR in its problems with the LTO and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).
“If they have a problem, its their business and we are not involved in that issue. Stradcom should not make that as an excuse for not paying their taxes,” she said.
Asked on what specific measure the bureau will do against the company, Henares said “We would not be able to disclose our measures but definitely we will do something.”
On Monday, Stradcom told the The Times that for the matter of income taxes, the P1-billion payment made to the company by the DOTC was not enough to trigger the income tax due for the subject calendar year.
