The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported on Sunday that an engine of an AirPhil Express Airbus A320 was damaged by a bird strike while landing toward the Dipolog Airport on Sunday afternoon. CAAP said that the pilots, Capt. Mark Castro and Capt. Peter Salac, were able to send messages to Mactan Control Tower at about 2:16 p.m. indicating that the plane that flew from Manila was hit by a bird strike that damaged one of its two jet engines. The pilots opted to contact the Mactan-Cebu International Airport due to its more advanced communication equipment.
