Bishop, clergy hurl tirades vs. mine firm


BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya: A bishop and his clergy of the Diocese of Bayombong declared solidarity with anti-miners barricading in the towns of Kasibu and Dupax del Norte against a foreign mining company.

Bishop Ramon Villena and the clergy of Bayombong Diocese aired over the Catholic-run radio station dwRV here a statement of solidarity reiterating their strong opposition to the mining explorations being conducted in the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino by Royalco Resources Ltd.

The Diocese of Bayombong of the Roman Catholic Church comprises the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.

”Do not be afraid, but keep on speaking and do not give up,” the clergy told those who are affected by the mining operations and those manning the barricades to prevent mining explorations.

Earlier this month, residents have started blocking roads in Barangay Paquet in Kasibu town and in Barangay Binuangan in Dupax del Norte town.
