BAGUIO CITY: Benguet Bishop Carlito Cenzon said the visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines should spark change in the country and its people.
“The Church and the people as a whole are never ready for change, but we need it, we need prophets and movers to do this and this Pope is charismatic enough to start it,” he told The Manila Times.
Bishop Cenzon said the Pope’s personal touch, attributes, popularity and charisma are something that distinguishes the pontiff from his forerunners. Pope Francis is also known for his love for the poor, reformist stance and humility.
He said these should be enough to create change in everyone as Pope Francis meets with the youth today and celebrates mass at Luneta in Manila.
Pope Francis is the third pontiff to visit the Philippines, whose Catholic devotees are almost 70 million.
Cenzon said Pope Francis has put into the limelight advocacies and changes, which should have been long discussed by the Vatican. He added that only the Pope can talk to cardinals and push for changes.
“The Pope wants dialog and pushes for talks with everyone, only he can do that, and that is his mission,” the Bishop shared.
