BALANGA CITY, Bataan: The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Committee on the Pastoral Care of Migrants and itinerant People (CBCP – (ECMI) on Saturday asked for continued prayers for Mary Jane Veloso and appealed to the Philippine government to press its petition to Indonesian authorities.
“Let us continue to pray for Mary Jane, that her life be spared,” CBCP–ECMI chairman and Bataan Bishop Ruperto Santos said.
Veloso is in the death row in Indonesia for drug smuggling. “We urge that the court cases against her illegal recruiters be pursued more vigorously as its resolution could help the situation of Mary Jane,” Santos added.
Veloso’s case surface anew following reactions from President Rodrigo Duterte’s meeting with Indonesian president Joko Widodo where he was quoted to have given a go-signal for her execution.
