Even Catholic bishops are not impressed with the performance of President Benigno Aquino 3rd in the past four years, an opinion mirrored in the latest survey of Pulse Asia.
Retired Novaliches Bishop Teodoro Bacani said he was not satisfied with Aquino’s performance as he belittled the “straight path” mantra of the president.
“Sana lahat ng pamamaraan matuwid din. Oo, tuwid yung daan, pero baku-bako,” Bacani said in an interview.
Bacani said if he were to rate the performance of Aquino on a scale of 1 to 10, he would give the president a middling grade of 5.
He noted that although Aquino was “a little better” than previous leaders, his stint cannot be considered outstanding.
“He is not as bad as many previous [leaders]. On the other end, we expect more from his administration,” Bacani said.
The bishop earlier urged Aquino to remove Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad after he was tagged as the tutor of businesswoman Janet Napoles, the alleged brain of the pork barrel scam.
On the other hand, Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Villaruz Reyes said he is also dissatisfied with the performance of Aquino, particularly the imple–mentation of the Reproductive Health (RH) Law.
“I’m not happy about that,” he noted.
A pulse Asia survey conducted from June 24 to July 2 showed that Aquino’s perfor–mance rating dropped by eight points, from 50 percent in March to 42 percent in June.
“Well with two years left, I have not really tried to measure the rating we should give him, but one thing I could say is he, himself is not guilty of any graft and corruption,” Reyes said.
