Bitoon sustains campaign in International Chess Open

Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Richard Bitoon scored 5.5 points after seventh round to keep his title bid alive on Friday in the 2nd Johor International Chess Open at the Johor Bahru City Square Office Tower in Malaysia. Bitoon posted victories against Zain Izzudin of Brunei Darussalam in first round, Niranjan Valagund of India in the second round, International Master (IM) Nguyen Van Hai of Vietnam in the fifth round, Vo Than Ninh of Vietnam in the sixth round and FIDE Master Dang Hoang Son of Vietnam in the seventh round. He drew with IM Ali Muhammad Lutfi of Indonesia in the third round before absorbing a setback against IM Mhamal Anurag of India in the fourth round. Lutfi took the solo lead with six points on five wins and two draws.  EMIL C. NOGUERA
