The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and the College of Saint Benilde Blazers will try to keep their hope for a semifinals slot alive when face separate foes today in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Blazers carrying a 10-6 win-loss record will face the out of contention Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals at 2 p.m. while the Heavy Bombers with an 11-6 card will take on the San Sebastian College Stags that are also already eliminated at 4 p.m.
Both the Heavy Bombers and the Blazers are the only other teams that remain in contention. They are just few steps behind solo leader Arellano University (13-4), San Beda College Red Lions (13-5) and solo third front running University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas (12-6).
The Arellano Chiefs bagged a semifinals slot and twice-to-beat advantage following a 78-76 win over the Red Lions on Saturday. Despite the setback, coach Boyet Fernandez’s team still entered the semifinals for the ninth straight season carrying the second twice-to-beat advantage.
