Ateneo De Manila University routed Adamson University, 79-57, for its first win in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles, who just returned to the country last Tuesday from a weeklong team building in Korea, started hot as they outscored the Falcons in the first period, 24-11, and then stretched the lead to 40-15 before halftime.
Adamson didn’t become a threat to Ateneo in the whole second half.
Shooting guard Kiefer Ravena piled up 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting in the field, He also issued four assists and had three steals.
Rookie Arvin Tolentino finished with 12 points while sophomore Chris Newsome contributed 11 points.
Adamson’s big man Ivan Villanueva scored 15 points and hauled down nine rebounds while Jensen Rios added 15 points for the Falcons, who lost their first game under new head coach Kenneth Duremdes.
In the second game, National University blasted University of Santo Tomas, 59-40, for its first win.
