ATENEO de Manila University goes for the jugular against defending champion National University (NU) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The game is set at 2 p.m.
While the Blue Eaglets are eyeing their first title since 2010 and 19th overall, the Bullpups try to extend their season by forcing a winner-take-all Game 4.
Behind Jolo Mendoza, Ateneo regained the upper hand in the title series with a 78-76 victory over NU on Monday to rebound from a 72-76 setback in the opener.
Coach Joe Silva hopes that his Eaglets will get the job done by enjoying the game and continue what they left off in Game 2.
”I want the boys to have fun. They should not think too much,” said Silva.
Mendoza, who shot 20 points the last time out, is expected to be the marked this time, as the Eaglets hope to draw big games from season Most Valuable Player Mike Nieto, Matthew Nieto, Gian Mamuyac and Shaun Ildefonso.
A victory would replicate what Ateneo did four seasons ago, as the Kiefer Ravena-led squad swept the double-round eliminations, lost Game 1 to University of Santo Tomas before winning the next two Finals games.
Bull-strong Mark Dyke, Philip Manalang, Jordan Sta. Ana, John Clemente and Justin Baltazar will be the key players to watch out for the Bullpups.
The deciding Game 4, if necessary, will be played on Tuesday at the same venue.
