BMW again revs up at the international engine awards

BMW-520130709BMW’s TwinPower turbo technology has won at the International Engine of the Year Awards 2013, the carmaker said in a statement.

It added that its 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with TwinPower that’s fitted to the BMW 1 Series, 3 Series and 5 Series, finished at the top of its displacement category—a repeat of the engine’s victory last year.

The Engine of the Year Awards, judged by 84 motoring journalists coming from 35 countries, were recently presented at the Engine Expo fair in Stuttgart, Germany.

Instantaneous power delivery and an unmatched level of efficiency were the cornerstones of BMW’s showing in this year’s awards, the carmaker said, adding that TwinPower was key in the 1.8-liter to 2.0-liter classes. BMW explained TwinPower is comprised by a twin-scroll turbo-charger, a high-precision direct injection fuel system and BMW’s Valvetronic fully variable valve control. In the Philippines, models powered by the award-winning engine’s 245-horsepower version are the 328i, 528i, and Z4 28i

BMW said that since 1999, it has racked up more than 60 class and overall wins in the competition.
