BMW and Leica, two distinguished masters of German engineering, recently teamed up to showcase the best of their exclusive design and premium craftsmanship. Asian Carmakers Corporation, the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, together with Leica Store Philippines, recently hosted the national round of the BMW Photo Cup, a region-wide experiential photo competition and inaugural event of the two brands.
The BMW Photo Cup adopts the method of the famed Leica Akademie, known throughout the world as the breeding ground for the new generation of photographers. In Leica’s experimental workshops, experts inspire participants to rediscover the world of photography by sharing fresh insights and unique skills.
For the Philippine leg of the BMW Photo Cup, select BMW and Leica customers were taken through a special journey in the form of a one-day photography session led by internationally acclaimed photojournalist and Leica Akademie Lead Instructor Mathias Heng. Each participant was provided the award-winning Leica T Camera System, which they used to acquire invaluable skills to photograph several of BMW’s most successful automobiles, namely the BMW M3, BMW M4, BMW X5 and the all-new BMW X6.
“This was a great opportunity for our clients to experience how technology and great design, as defined by BMW and Leica, come together beautifully,” said ACC president Maricar Parco. “The creativity and storytelling skills required to showcase photos that evoke emotion are crucial elements that are embodied by both brands.”
At the end of the session, participants were made to choose one creative shot as their official entry to the photo competition. Martin Tsoi who garnered over 2,000 votes will join the BMW Driving Experience in Namibia and represent the Philippines at the BMW Photo Cup International Finals in October 2015. Voters of the national round stand a chance to win a Wild Card to join the region’s finalists in Namibia.
The weeklong trip across Namibia is set to give participants the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of South Africa while competing in the international stage for the coveted top prize—a Leica Camera and the prestige of becoming the grand winner of the first-ever BMW Photo Cup.
“The BMW Photo Cup presented a great opportunity for BMW and Leica Camera to come together and offer the best of style and innovation in the luxury segment to our valued customers and friends from the media. We look forward to collaborating with BMW in the future to create more unique experiences that highlight both brands’ rich history of exciting, high-quality products based on pioneering in precision technology,” said Edith Dychiao, general manager of Leica Store Philippines.
