Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapena on Monday vowed not only to hit the P627 billion target for 2018 but exceed it as well to put an end to the bureau’s seven-year collection slump.

He pointed out that if the Customs bureau will surpass its target at a conservative estimate of P20 billion, all personnel, from the commissioner down to the janitor, would be entitled to a 20 percent share of the surplus, which is equivalent to P1.4 million commission for each of the 2,800 officials and rank-and-file employees as provided for under the Lateral Attrition Law.
