Majayjay, Laguna: Local rescue units have recovered the body of a six-year-old girl, one of the three local tourists swept by a flash flood in a resort along Dalitiwan River in Majayjay, Laguna on Sunday.
Cristine Altea Alimania’s body was found at about noon on Monday in Barangay Balanak, at the nearby town of Magdalena, about 20 kilometers away from Dalitiwan Resort.
Laguna Provincial Director, Senior Supt. Ronnie Montejo said two others reported missing were Bryan Alimania, the girl’s father who is from Cabuyao; and Vanessa Carillo from Dasmarinas, Cavite.
He added that search and rescue operations to find Carillo and Alemania were again suspended on Monday afternoon because of the deteriorating weather conditions in the area.
The missing victims were among hundreds of local tourists at the resort when heavy rains followed by thunder and lightning occurred at around 4 p.m., particularly in Mt. Banahaw, the river source.
Police said a sudden surge of water from Dalitiwan Falls caused the river to overflow, and carried away the three victims. Most of the tourists were able run to higher grounds and were spared by the raging waters.
