The Archdiocese of Manila has warned of a bogus account in Facebook that uses the name of Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle to sell T-shirts.
Peachy Yamsuan, head of the Archdiocesan Office of Communications of the Archdiocese of Manila, said that all circulars, announcements and similar posts on the Facebook account of a certain “Archbishop Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, DD, STD” do not come either from the Cardinal or the chancery office of the Archdiocese of Manila.
A copy of a memorandum circular posted on the fake account reminds the “vicars foraine, parish priests, parochial vicars, shrine rectors, parish OICs and administrators, incardinated priests, guest priests, guest priests, priests-on-loan, lay leaders of the Archdiocese of Manila” of the archdiocesan laity on weekend.
The circular reminds Church people to wear their “T-shirts with the proper color of their vicariate” which can be sold at P300 for small and medium sizes; and P400 for large and extra-large sizes.
“Please be advised that the above-mentioned FB [Facebook account] is not that of Cardinal Tagle and that all “circulars” [and]“announcements” placed there are not official and do not come from him or the chancery office of the Archdiocese of Manila,” Yamsuan said.
In another announcement, the bogus account reminds the faithful of the 57th birthday of the Cardinal. The FB holder urged the public to hold a simple lunch instead of a big birthday celebration.
It also urged them to “donate to the charities of the archbishop which will help his ministries” instead of giving gifts.
The bogus account, which uses Tagle’s photo in a podium, has attracted 4, 295 likes as of last June 20. Its cover photo was that of the Archdiocese of Manila.
Yamsuan further reiterated that the Facebook page was not that of Tagle, citing that they had already previously issued warning against the FB account.
“I am sending you bogus circulars emanating from the bogus FB of “Archbishop Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, DD, STD.” The Archdiocese of Manila has previously issued warnings against this FB account and the attention of FB has been called but the bogus FB continues to operate,” she said.
