Isabela City, the capital of Basilan, is one of five provinces under the volatile Muslim region.
The regional police did not release any reports about the bombing, but television station ABS-CBN said Akbar son Al-Qaid, who is running for governor in the province was inside the house, but was not hurt in the blast.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the bombing, but Akbar has pledged her support to the candidacy of Tan, a member of the Liberal Party, and largely popular in Basilan.
Akbar’s husband, former Rep. Wahab Akbar, was one of four people killed in a bomb attack outside the House of Representatives in 2007. Akbar’s family implicated several politicians in the province in the assassination of the lawmaker.
