The prosecution panel handling the case against Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. will not be moving for inhibition after a magistrate of the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan said he knows Revilla’s new counsel.
First Division Associate Justice Rafael Lagos on Tuesday disclosed in open court that he and defense lawyer Ramon Esguerra knew each other and have common friends.
Lagos said his daughter was a student of Esguerra in law school and that he had supported Esguerra’s bid to head the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Southern Tagalog.
“These are not grounds for inhibition. And we do not see any reason at this time to move for inhibition. Especially since Justice Lagos also declared that he can and will be impartial in deciding this case,” Prosecutor Joefferson Toribio said.
