IT was history and a romantic comedy that won big in the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival awards night on December 27 at the PICC Plenary Hall in Pasay City. With eight “high quality Filipino films” vying for one of the most coveted awards in the local film industry, it was the historical film Bonifacio: Ang Unang Panggulo and the romantic-comedy English Only Please that won big in the festival.

The Erik Matti film sequel Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2 also won big in the festival, garnering six awards, including best supporting actor and actress.
