• ‘Bonsai’ school in Ilocos Norte soon to rise

LAOAG CITY: It is all systems go for the establishment of a school, which will offer artistic cultivation of dwarfed trees known as “Bonsai.”

The Bonsai School will be under the auspices of the state-run Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac City.

MMSU President Mirriam Pascua said the trees to be planted will be sold commercially so that students can earn.

University officials said the operation of the school will commence in 2014 which is expected to have 30 initial students.

Gov. Imee Marcos said the project is one of a kind and deserves support from the provincial government because of the “bright prospects of bonsai plants in local and global markets.”
