Richard Boon will mentor the Philippine national women’s football team that will compete in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup 2018, which will be hosted by Jordan.
The Philippine Football Federation has formally commissioned Boon to be the head coach of the Malditas who will play in the top continental women’s football competition slated on April 6 to 20 next year.
The contract signing of Boon together with his coaching staff Clint McDaniel (assistant coach), Eric Miselroy (goalkeeping coach), Joey Hoffman and Carey Rosenberry (coaches) was held during the recently concluded scouting combine and training camp at the El Cerrito Sports Complex Corona in California, USA.
Boon is a veteran coach who has 25 years of experience, including a stint as the director for girls development program of the California-based Corinthians Soccer Club.
Boon replaced Far Eastern University head coach Let Dimzon, who guided the national women’s team in the 29th Southeast Asian Games last August.
The Malditas, under former mentor Leticia “Buda” Bautista, qualified to the quadrennial Asian Women’s Cup after besting Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Tajikistan and Iraq in the qualifiers last April at the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.
