• Boracay posts P31B tourism receipts in first 7 months


    KALIBO, Aklan: The island of Boracay generated a total of P31.77 billion in tourism receipts for the first seven months of this year.

    Aklan Provincial Tourism Office (APTO) records showed that of the total tourism receipts, P22.154 billion came from foreign and overseas Filipinos tourists, while P9.618 billion was earned from domestic tourists.

    Based on the report, the arrivals of 558,014 foreign and 29,813 overseas Filipinos tourists from January to July 2016 triggered the growth of the tourism receipts in Boracay.

    Meanwhile, domestic tourists listed were 538,928, totaling 1.126 tourist arrivals the island received in seven months.

    Tourist arrivals in the first seven months increased by 15.75 percent as compared to last year’s data for the same period with 973,434 arrivals.

    April was the month Boracay received the most number of tourists with 183,047 arrivals; followed by February with 173,256; May 170,454; January 158,701; March 156,872; July 144,045; and June 140,380.

    Based on APTO’s Comparative Boracay Statistics for the period 2015-2016, the month of February had the highest growth rate of 33 percent while the month of May had the least growth of only 1.0 percent.

    The local tourism office is targeting 1.7 million tourist arrivals in Boracay this year.
