SANMAN Promotion’s Jake Bornea will test his mettle against Andrew Salby of United Kingdom for the IBF Inter-Continental flyweight title on November 18 at the Wembly Arena in London, United Kingdom.
“I have never prepared this hard for a fight as this is another great opportunity for me to prove not just to the Filipino boxing fans but also to myself that I can be a great boxing champion,” said the 21-year old Bornea in a statement sent to The Manila Times.
Bornea is on a five-game winning streak and holds a record of 11 wins and one loss.
In 2015, he won the WBO Asia Pacific Youth flyweight title by scoring a fourth round KO victory against Richard Rosales. It was followed by his successful title defense against Renerio Arizala.
“I will do all I can to take this win and bring home the IBF Inter-Continental title back to the Philippines,” he added.
Bornea’s opponent, Salby, was a 2012 London Olympics quarterfinalist and the younger brother of IBF World Flyweight champion Lee Selby.
The 27-year-old Salby is undefeated in six fights including four knockouts.
“We have been preparing Jake [Bornea] these past months working day-in and out for this opportunity for him to win another title. We have studied tapes and have been working on not just his technique but his stamina as well,” said SANMAN Promotion CEO Jim Claude Manaquil.
In the other matches, Conrad Cummings will fight Ronny Mittag for the IBF Inter-Continental middleweight division while George Groves will battle Eduard Gutknetcht for the WBA International Super Middleweight belt.
