The 6’8 import Denzel Bowles led Purefoods’ second half charge to beat Barako Bull, 103-96, on Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum. It’s the team’s seventh victory in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 40 Commissioners Cup.
Purefoods improved its win-loss record to 7-3.
Bowles shot 12-of-24 in the field and 9-of-11 in the foul line to notch 34 points in addition to his 16 rebounds and two blocks. Forward Joe Devance finished with 15 points while Allain Maliksi posted 13 points for Purefoods.
“Guys off the bench played well,” said Purefoods head coach Tim Cone. “That’s the kind of stuff that really helps you win in the playoffs. We still need help, but we’re gunning for that top two-spots. Making the top six is our goal first.”
Solomon Alabi led Barako Bull with 29 points. The team’s win-loss record dropped to 4-6.
Meanwhile, PBA Commissioner Chito Salud ordered that Rain or Shine big man Beau Belga pay a P70,000 fine and his teammate Raymund Almazan P40,000 for misconduct and unsportsmanlike foul in their game against Ginebra on Sunday.
Veteran Ginebra center Dorian Pena was also fined P10,000 for unsportsmanlike foul against Almazan during that game.
