Following months of speculation, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid has officially left GMA Network, his home network for the past two decades.
The news was confirmed via an e-mail sent by GMA Network Corporate Communications to The Manila Times thanking Alcasid for all his contributions and wishing him the best.
“As Ogie Alcasid moves on to explore new grounds, GMA Network, his home for almost two decades, wishes him all the best. We thank him for being a part of the Network’s success all these years.”
“His achievements as a singer, songwriter, comedian, host and actor make Ogie the icon that he is now. And the Kapuso Network is proud to have been with him throughout this journey.”
Alcasid, who heads the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mangaawit, has been a staple in several of the networks flagship programs such as Sunday All Stars and its precursor shows Party Pilipinas and SOP, as well as the long running gag show Bubble Gang. It was in the gag show where he came up with Boy PickUp a character based on the underground FlipTop culture.
Although his transfer to TV5 has yet to be finalized, sources say Alcasid has been in talks with the MVP-owned network even before his contract expired early this month.
TV5 executives said they will be releasing a statement soon.
