• Brady makes surprise exhibition start

FOXBOROUGH, United States: Tom Brady made a surprise pre-season start on Thursday (Friday in Manila), but the star quarterback’s presence couldn’t lift the New England Patriots to a victory in its exhibition opener. Brady, playing a day after appearing in federal court to fight the NFL’s four-game suspension for his role in the “deflate-gate” scandal, completed only one of four passes, for 10 yards before leaving the contest. Backup Jimmy Garoppolo replaced him and completed 20 of 30 passes for 159 yards, with one interception as the Patriots lost 22-11 to the Green Bay Packers.
