PITTSBURGH: A verbal exchange between Pittsburgh pitcher Gerrit Cole and Milwaukee outfielder Carlos Gomez sparked a brawl that saw Gomez tossed from their Major League Baseball game on Sunday. The fracas occurred in the third inning, after Gomez had tripled off of Cole with a drive to center field that hit the wall. After Gomez slid into third, Cole, who had moved to back up the play at the base, appeared to say something as he walked back to the mound. Gomez took off his helmet and moved toward the Pirates hurler and players poured off both benches. Gomez was replaced by Elian Herrera in center field for the rest of the game, which the Brewers won 3-2 in 14 innings.
