• Brits looking to defend home dominance at worlds

LONDON: The British track team returns to the scene of its greatest triumph at the UCI World Track Championships in London this week with the rest of the world having closed the gap on the hosts ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio. At their home Olympics in London 2012, the British team won a total of 12 cycling medals, an astonishing eight in the track events where their domination was near total. The British still have the star power with former Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins lining up alongside 26-time Tour stage-winner Mark Cavendish and double 2012 Olympic champion Laura Trott, but the air of British invincibility has certainly slipped since the Lee Valley Velodrome hosted the London Games.
