• Broadcaster’s killer fall

Murder charges have been filed against the suspected assassin of Maurito “chairman Mao” Lim, a broadcaster of dyRD in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Police reports show that one empty shell recovered at the crime scene was fitted the cartridge that was fired from the .45 caliber pistol taken from the suspect Jovane Orenia, a resident of barangay Poblacion II of the city.

“The crime does not point to Mau’s [Maurito] job as a broadcaster,” Police Chief Inspector George Acol Vale.

After a three-week manhunt, Orenia fell during a buy-bust operation. Taken from the suspect was a .45 caliber pistol, eleven bullets, and shabu. The police cornered him at the Tagbilaran Central School along F. Rocha Street.

Besides the crime laboratory results of the bullet shell, the testimonies of witnesses and high resolution footage of CCTV cameras triangulated the evidence pointing to the suspected killer.

However, the motive of the cold-blooded murder was not yet known. According to a police source who requested anonymity, Lim was a victim of a successful land sale involving P3 million. Days before the crime, according to the source, Lim reportedly sold the land which bred hatred among claimants who wanted their portion of the property. Another source confirmed this angle. “The land,” according to the source, “is not owned by Lim. He redeemed the land from someone and then sold it.”
Other media colleagues, however, do not believe the land dispute angle as the possible motive of Lim’s murder.
